About DJ Bigg V
Legendary Radio Personality Bigg V Recognized by Mississippi Legislature as Music Industry Influencer
Legendary radio personality Vince “Bigg V” Roberts has been officially honored by the Mississippi state legislature for his pivotal role in shaping the Southern soul music landscape. Through the recently passed Mississippi House Concurrent Resolution 60, the state of Mississippi was formally acknowledged as the birthplace and cultural bedrock of Southern soul music. Among the individuals highlighted in the resolution is Bigg V, recognized as a key contributor to the genre’s growth and influence through his work as a highly respected disc jockey.
“I help Southern soul artists through airplay, promotions, or by leveraging my relationships with other promoters, like the Syndicated Southern Soul Mix Show Brown Liquor Music—even if I don’t benefit from it directly,” Bigg V explains.
Bigg V is credited with championing both legacy and contemporary artists. His early efforts preserved and promoted the legacies of Mississippi blues icons like B.B. King, Bobby Rush, Johnny Taylor, Little Milton, and many others. Simultaneously, he has been instrumental in ushering in a new generation of Southern soul artists including Tucka, King George, 803 Fresh, Arthur Young, Big Yayo, and more.
“For my name to be mentioned in a state legislative action is surreal to me,” Bigg V reflects. “The biggest blessing is to be recognized as one of the people who helped move the genre forward. I wasn’t even aware that state legislators knew my name—much less how influential I’ve been in the genre. I’m just honored to be included.”
With a career spanning more than two decades, Bigg V has worn many hats—radio host, club DJ, concert promoter, and advertising director. In 2022, his contributions were nationally recognized when the Southern Entertainment Awards (SEAs) named him #1 DJ in the South, honoring his musical impact and philanthropy.
Beyond Southern soul, Bigg V has played a major role in the careers of many hip-hop and R&B superstars. He’s credited with introducing breakout hits from Rick Ross, T.I., Yo Gotti, Future, 2 Chainz, Young Dolph, Boosie, Big K.R.I.T., and many more. “I’ve been able to change the lives of a lot of artists,” he says.
Most recently, Bigg V was promoted to a drive-time slot on Power 106.5 WAID-FM in Clarksdale, Mississippi, which eventually led to another primetime opportunity at Jammin’ 104 WCLD-FM in Cleveland, Mississippi. These moves have extended his radio footprint across a 150-mile radius powered by 50,000 watts, in addition to online streaming.
“The move to these two stations is major,” V emphasizes. “It’s not just more exposure for me—the best part is that artists and businesses now have the opportunity to reach a broader audience. Their services and events can gain the exposure they need.”
He concludes, “I want to entertain my listeners, but I also want to be of service however I can. The bigger my brand grows, the more I can offer to businesses, artists, and my community. That’s what I’m about.”
